The company
History
Salvador Lutteroth founded Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre in 1933, making CMLL the oldest active wrestling promotion in the world. Arena México, its home since 1956, is lucha libre’s cathedral. El Santo and Blue Demon became national icons here, and CMLL’s partnership with New Japan has sent stars like Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi on formative excursions to Mexico.
