Extreme Championship Wrestling
Paul Heyman's Philadelphia promotion: born as Eastern Championship Wrestling, renamed Extreme in 1994, and the hardcore, high-risk alternative of the Monday Night War era. Its library and name went to WWF in 2001.
History
The story
Tod Gordon started Eastern Championship Wrestling in Philadelphia in 1992. Under booker and later owner Paul Heyman it became Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1994 and changed the business with hardcore wrestling, lucha libre, Japanese influence and a cult-like home crowd at the ECW Arena. It went bankrupt in 2001, and WWE bought its assets.
