World Championship Wrestling

Turner's company after buying Crockett in 1988; Nitro, the nWo and the Monday Night Wars.

The company

History

World Championship Wrestling was born when Ted Turner bought Jim Crockett Promotions in 1988. Under Eric Bischoff it launched Monday Nitro in 1995 and, with the nWo, beat the WWF in the ratings for 83 straight weeks. Creative chaos and mounting losses followed, and the WWF bought WCW in March 2001; the final Nitro closed with Ric Flair against Sting.
